BANKING INSTITUTION
More than 4,000 VB6 windows migrated to Angular
in the financial terminal of a leading banking institution in Spain
More than 4,000 windows. Two heterogeneous technologies, Visual Basic 6 and JSP, that had to converge into a single web architecture. Thousands of internal users whose operations could not be interrupted at any time. This VB6 migration success story in banking documents how GO4IT Solutions modernized the corporate financial terminal of a leading banking institution in Spain, preserving the full functionality of the original system and delivering a platform ready for future technological evolution.
Project scope
- More than 4,000 windows and functional components modernized — over 6,000 in the terminal’s total scope
- Technological convergence of VB6 and JSP into a unified web architecture
- Critical platform used daily by thousands of internal users
- Strategic financial terminal for the institution’s daily operations
- New highly configurable corporate component framework as the target architecture
The challenge: unifying two legacy technologies without stopping banking operations
The entity’s corporate financial terminal was the central access point to the bank’s operational systems. Composed of more than 6,000 windows and functional components, it combined Visual Basic 6 and JSP in a hybrid architecture that had evolved over many years.
The challenge was not only technical: it was organizational. Thousands of professionals used this platform every day to execute critical banking business processes. A poorly planned modernization could have generated weeks of incidents, affecting both internal operations and the quality of service delivered to end customers.
A Forrester Research study (2024) indicates that 68% of modernization projects using generative AI in critical banking systems were interrupted or reduced in scope due to traceability issues. In the banking sector, verifiable isofunctionality is not optional.

The solution: technological convergence to Angular with a
proprietary corporate framework
GO4IT Solutions participated in the modernization of the corporate financial terminal frontend, evolving the solution toward a web architecture based on Angular and a new highly configurable proprietary corporate component framework. One of the most distinctive aspects of the project was technological convergence: VB6 and JSP are radically different development paradigms. Both had to converge into a single Angular architecture aligned with the institution’s corporate technology standards. This convergence simplified the platform’s future evolution: from that point on, any new development or modification would be carried out on a single technology base, without the complexity of maintaining two parallel paradigms.
Results: reduced risk, simplified maintenance,
a foundation for innovation
The project enabled the institution to reduce the technological risk associated with operating obsolete platforms, eliminating its dependency on VB6, unsupported since 2008, and on JSP with outdated frameworks. The modernization was carried out while preserving operational continuity and the user experience. Existing functionality was fully preserved through an isofunctional migration strategy. The final result was a platform with a technology base aligned with corporate standards, ready for future digital transformation processes and with significantly simplified evolutionary maintenance.
Key Challenges Addressed
- Modernize a financial terminal composed of more than 6,000 windows and functional components.
- Converge two heterogeneous technologies — VB6 and JSP — into a single, unified web architecture.
- Adapt applications designed for client-server environments to a fully decoupled web model.
- Maintain the user experience and minimize the impact on daily operational processes.
- Fully preserve the existing functionality through an isofunctional migration strategy.
